“The mission of the foundation feels so authentic to me because of my very own journey. I see myself reflected in these young Latinas and I see a need that I can’t ignore as a successful Latina."

With over 200 guests attending, The Fig Factor Foundation (FFF) marked its debut to the public Jan. 21 with its official launch and fundraiser at Plante Moran in Chicago. The festive event, which provided refreshments and entertainment from Ballet Internacional Soles Guadalupanos, was an instant success raising over $25,000. The monies will help the foundation’s support programs for 2016.

FFF helps Latinas ages 15 to 25 pursue their dreams by providing educational leadership platforms, mentorship and powerful experiences through a context of sisterhood. Creating the foundation was dream come true for its founder, Jacqueline Camacho-Ruiz.

“To me, the foundation is a 19-year journey,” says Camacho-Ruiz. “The mission of the foundation feels so authentic to me because of my very own journey. I see myself reflected in these young Latinas and I see a need that I can’t ignore as a successful Latina. I know that with my influence, resources and connections, I can truly make an impact and that’s something that I can’t ignore.”

As a 14-year-old, Camacho-Ruiz came to the United States from Mexico City with a dream and desire to create a dynamic and successful life. With an associate’s degree in Marketing, this young Latina laid the foundation to not only head JJR Marketing, an award-winning marketing and public relations firm, but to be a well-known author and speaker.

She realized that many young Hispanic females have the potential to activate their passions and needed courage to make those dreams happen. With this idea, Camacho-Ruiz and her board of created the Fig Factor Foundation in 2014.

Farmers Insurance, the event’s founding sponsor, donated $10,000 to the foundation to continue its mission.

"Farmers Insurance is proud to be a founding sponsor of The Fig Factor,” says Peter Sobecki, territory sales manager for Farmers Insurance. “In addition to joining with The Fig Factor organization in aiming to unleash the ‘amazing’ in young Latinas, we support opening up entrepreneurial opportunities to more people so they, too, can unleash their amazing potential.”

Other event sponsors include JJR Marketing, Plante Moran, 3Points, Wintrust Financial, Sasser Family Holdings, Inc., Metaphrasis Language & Cultural Solutions, Inc., Mas Marketing Group, Kelmscott Communications, The Loop Marketing and dotpress.us.
