PreemploymentDirectory.com, the Background Screening Information Portal, Releases 2015 Year End Report Highlighting Key Issues in Conducting Background Checks
Alpharetta, GA (PRWEB) February 03, 2016 -- PreemploymentDirectory.com, the background screening information portal for HR professionals, announced today the release of their 2015 Year End Report highlighting the top issues that impacted background screening. The report takes a look at the top stories and news items that appeared in the industry leading and award winning e-magazine, The Background Buzz, and itemizes the most significant issues. Moving up from the second spot last year to the top of the list was the growing number of class action lawsuits alleging violations of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). Articles about the evolving E-Verify process had the second highest number of articles followed by last year’s top story getter, articles on Ban the Box legislation.
New to the top ranked stories this year were articles about the impact of legalizing marijuana. Rounding out the top five story categories were articles dealing with the use of Social Media in the background screening process and/or laws regarding employers’ access to applicant accounts. W. Barry Nixon, COO, PreemploymentDirectory.com and publisher of the award winning newsletter The Background Buzz said, “The flow of FCRA class action lawsuits continued to build throughout the year and is not likely to subside anytime soon. Plaintiff lawyers have discovered the potential for huge financial benefits and the cases keep mounting.” Nixon added, “Similar to last year, this year’s report highlights the pervasive impact and challenge that an increasingly complex legal compliance environment poses for background screeners.”
In 2014, an unprecedented number of class action lawsuits were filed alleging violations of the FCRA and much to our surprise, the number of cases increased in 2015. The startling fact continues to be that the vast majority of these lawsuits involve technical violations of the FCRA. With proper guidance and regular audits, employers could readily address their shortcomings.
