About the Headliners:
Led by the founder, singer, songwriter and guitarist of Sonic Youth, the Thurston Moore Group features some of independent music’s most influential and celebrated artists of all time. During his three decades with Sonic Youth, Moore was at the forefront of the alternative rock scene and served as a direct influence on everyone from Nirvana to Sigur Ros to Arcade Fire. Now performing with his own band, Moore is continuing to inspire new generations of music listeners and musicians. The Thurston Moore Group also includes Steve Shelley (formerly of Sonic Youth), Deb Googe (of My Bloody Valentine) and James Sedwards.
Andrew W.K., aka “The King of Partying”, first made a name for himself with his 2001 debut album I Get Wet, which included the hits “Party Hard”, “It’s Time to Party” and “She Is Beautiful”. Pitchfork Media named the album one of the decade’s best. In addition to being a musician, Andrew W.K. is a motivational speaker and TV host.
Fountain Square Music Festival background and partners:
Since starting in 2013 as a single-day outdoor festival, the Fountain Square Music Festival has grown and evolved just as its neighborhood has. Last year’s festival, which took place over the Fourth of July weekend, brought in an audience of nearly 4,000.
Fountain Square Music Festival organizers believe that moving the festival to spring and taking it indoors will benefit both the festival and its attendees.
“This year’s festival is a step forward,” said Adam Pedersen, executive director of the Fountain Square Music Festival. “Our goal is for the festival to continue to build and support our local music scene, and help establish Indianapolis as a cultural hub for artists and musicians.”
Fountain Square Music Festival has brought on a variety of local partners including Joyful Noise Recordings, Absorb, MOKB Presents, Rivet, Kyle Long and Oreo Jones this year in order to increase the size, scope and quality of the festival.
“Fountain Square Music Festival is a unique opportunity to bring our whole label together and bring important artistry to Indianapolis and more specifically, our neighborhood. There is so much potential for arts and music to thrive here, and this festival helps foster that growth,” said Karl Hofstetter, of Joyful Noise Recordings.
