Accounting app vendors continue to see the importance of making their app’s security features transparent

GetApp has published its latest ranking of the top 25 accounting apps in the cloud. NetSuite took the coveted top spot in the Q1 2016 ranking, ahead of second-placed Xero, with FreshBooks rounding out the top three.

The GetApp ranking– which is designed to help small and mid-sized businesses make a more informed software choice– is determined using five data points. These include user reviews, integrations, mobile apps, social media presence, and security.

The user review score is decided according to the number and rating of each app’s reviews on GetApp, while integrations is based on the total number of apps with which each piece of software integrates. The mobile app data point takes into account the availability of an Android and iOS app, as well as their rating in the Google Play and Apple App Store, and social media presence looks at the number of Facebook fans and Twitter followers each vendor has. To calculate the security score, GetRank pulls data from information that vendors provide in a survey based on the Cloud Security Alliance Self-Assessment Form.

Industry titan Netsuite topped the ranking thanks to perfect 20 scores for both its media presence and its security credentials. QuickBooks Online came out on top for integrations, scoring 20 out of 20 for this data point. The accounting app also tied for the top spot in the mobile arena with fellow small business specialist FreshBooks, both scoring 19 points, while Intacct proved popular among users, heading the field for user reviews with a maximum score of 20.

“Accounting app vendors continue to see the importance of making their app’s security features transparent,” says Christophe Primault, CEO at GetApp. “It should be a key consideration when it comes to making a decision about any cloud-based software, but especially when sensitive financial data is involved. Having security details readily available helps small business owners make an informed decision and choose the right accounting app for their company.”
