SONWav™ Multiband Slimline Antenna Now Commercially Available
Rochester, New York (PRWEB) February 23, 2016 -- Following a series of successful trials in live networks with numerous mobile operators, Quintel®, a leading innovator of spectrum and space-efficient base station antennas for wireless networks, is delighted to announce full commercial launch of its Slimline SONWav™ Antenna with 4x Low-Band Ports and 4x High-Band Ports.
SONWav™ conceived by David Barker, CTO and developed by by the engineering team under Dave Piazza, VP Engineering has emerged out of our labs and operator field tests. SONWav™ is now generally available offering operators a powerful, practical alternative solution for delivering the benefits of 4-branch Rx at Low-Band spectrum, where traditional 4-branch solutions would be too large, or would challenge zoning, rentals or windloading. Like other 4-branch antenna solutions, SONWav™ is designed in particular to bolster the Uplink for coverage challenged Low-Band LTE services, including VoLTE. When the SONWav™ antenna four Low-band RF ports are connected to a standard LTE 2T4R Radio (e.g. 700MHz or 850MHz bands), up to 50% spectral efficiency gains or up to 4dB effective Uplink Gain can be achieved, without an increase in physical antenna aperture size. SONWav™ is also built using the same successful MultiServ™ array topology, IP and platform developed by Director of Engineering Dr Peter Song, which means SONWav™ also benefits from optimized Azimuth patterns for maximizing capacity and engineered wind-loading for maximizing deployment.
SONWav™ is particularly useful in cells which have aggressive down-tilts for Low-Band services, including LTE700. Such aggressive tilts might be required to optimize Downlink inter-cell interference but will constrain the Uplink because cell edge terminals will arrive at elevation angles away from boresight and thus can’t exploit the full Gain of the Antenna. SONWav™ provides elevation pattern diversity for these Low-Band services, and when connected to a 4-branch radio and baseband running Maximal Ratio Combining (MRC), the Uplink Gain can be fully recovered. Most OEM baseband combining also include Interference Rejection Combining (IRC) schemes, which means that when used with SONWav™, additional Uplink capacity, or co-channel interference mitigation can be achieved thus providing enhanced Uplink spectral efficiencies, data rates and QoS robustness.
SONWav Key features and benefits:
- SONWav technique designed for Low-Band Services 700, 800, 850MHz
- Allows Downlink to be Tilt optimized with Power Limited Uplink services (VoLTE).
- Mitigates Uplink Interference when using IRC in Baseband
- Maximizes Uplink MCS, SINR, CQI and Throughput
- SONWav also has 4x1695-2400MHz Ports (as 2x independent Tilts)
- Optimized Azimuth Patterns as per MultiServ™ Family
- Optimized Radome & Windload as MultiServ™ Family
The SONWav™ Antenna will be initially available suitable for the primary spectrum bands in the Americas in 6ft length, then 4ft and 8ft lengths. The SONWav™ Antenna has 4x Low-Band ports covering 698-894MHz and 4x high-band ports, the latter packaged as two conventional separate cross-polarized arrays each covering 1695-2400MHz. Variants aimed at European and other markets will extend the Low-Band ports to 960MHz. SONWav™ also has an upgrade path to supporting future 4T4R Radio interfaces.
