Gilbane Building Company Completes Houston Medical Center Surgery Renovations
Atlanta, Georgia (PRWEB) February 16, 2016 -- Gilbane Building Company in Atlanta, Georgia, completed the phased renovations for the Houston Medical Center, which is part of the Houston Healthcare System in Georgia serving more than 300,000 patients each year. The project replaced all existing surgery spaces and added additional space with new state-of-the-art operating rooms and support space. The comprehensive construction management project included renovations to operating rooms, patient holding, new pain clinic, post-anesthesia care unit, endoscopy, registration and staff support to the facilities located in Warner, Georgia.
The two-story project was managed through five phases in order to maintain the 24/7 active hospital needs. Each phase was carefully coordinated with the hospital staff, owner and key stakeholders to avoid disruptions and allow operating rooms to remain in use. The team used BIM 3D models to facilitate the construction process saving more than $1.5 million.
“The unique phasing approach allowed our teams to deliver this project without any disruptions to the patients or staff,” said Brian Steed, Vice President. “Our team was very sensitive to the needs of the active medical environment and ongoing services.”
The 65,000-square-foot project included 30,000 square feet of renovations and 35,000 square feet of additions. The project was completed on time and under budget.
