Samir Becic's Recent Open Letter to Presidential Candidates About Obesity Epidemic
(PRWEB) February 19, 2016 -- Samir Becic, an internationally renowned health and fitness expert, and the first person to rank presidential candidates on their physical fitness and healthy nutrition, posted an open letter to the presidential candidates urging them to talk about the obesity epidemic in the United States. In August 2015, Becic urged presidential candidates to discuss the nation's health and offer solutions on how to solve the obesity epidemic. But the obesity epidemic has not been raised by any of the candidates. That's why Becic decided to go a step further, and released an open letter to all of the candidates and debate moderators reiterating the importance of these issues in the election.
Becic asked in his open letter:
"When will the presidential candidates and the debate moderators address the obesity epidemic in the United States? As a health and fitness professional, it is alarming that 36% of our population is obese and 70% is overweight, causing 360,000 deaths each year directly due to obesity-related illnesses. The candidates are talking about healthcare, security, and the budget, but are completely neglecting preventative care through physical fitness and healthy nutrition. Addressing this colossal problem now can save millions of American lives and billions of taxpayer dollars."
Becic is extremely concerned that the obesity epidemic has not been brought up in any of the Democratic or Republican presidential debates. He went on to list statistics from reputable sources to show how the obesity epidemic is linked to healthcare, national security, and the economy.
Samir Becic continued in his open letter:
"The men and women who hope to be our president are raging ’til they’re red in the face about healthcare costs and national security. The candidates want cheaper medicine? Americans should aspire to use less medicine! If American leaders inspire people to workout and eat healthy, there’s less risk they’ll wind up in the hospital. Of course US healthcare costs are spiraling out of control; the vast majority of people are eating unhealthy food and are physically inactive. Becic is shocked that the moderators are not bringing this issue up on the debate stage when it weighs so heavily on our nation!"
