Every little bit helps, and we are happy we can offer this recognition to a first-year law student. Conferring this scholarship is a first for us and an opportunity we hope to be able to repeat in future years.

The Mann Law Firm, a prominent Middle Georgia personal injury practice, revealed today that it would be awarding a legal scholarship of $1,000 in August. The purpose of the scholarship is to promote and reward creative authorship.

Managing partner David Mann explains, “It’s a common misconception that being an attorney only involves making speeches in a courtroom. Of course that is an important skill, but the written word is the foundation of the legal profession. Successful lawyers are those who are able to clearly and accurately get their point across to a wide variety of people. You have to be able to communicate effectively with those who have questions about whether they need your services, existing clients, other attorneys, judges, and juries, among others.”

Scholarships will be awarded based on creativity, originality, and the ability to clearly convey a complex message. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or authorized to work in the U.S., be starting law school in August of 2016, and have written an article that has been published in a newspaper, magazine, professional blog, or academic publication. Completed application forms must be submitted with a copy of the applicant’s law school acceptance letter and either a copy of the applicant’s previously published article or a link to the article’s online location. The subject matter does not have to be related to the law, but should strive to be informational.

Applications can be submitted online at the Mann Law Firm. All documents must be received by May 1, 2016. The successful candidate will be notified by June 15, 2016. The winner’s law school will receive a $1,000 check by August 1, 2016, to help defray his or her tuition costs and other expenses.

“These days, higher education can be costly,” observes Mann. “Every little bit helps, and we are happy we can offer this recognition to a first-year law student. Conferring this scholarship is a first for us and an opportunity we hope to be able to repeat in future years.”
