The Museum Flehite in the Dutch city of Amersfoort is hosting a retrospective "Romantic Modernist" spanning several decades of the work of Dutch painter and sculptor Toon Kelder (1894 - 1973). The exhibit, which includes a wide collection of work on loan from collectors and family, can be seen from February 20th through June 12th, 2016. While Kelder is best known for his portraits and nudes, the exhibit also includes some of his later work, more abstract and modern in nature, dating from his later period.
Several of the works feature nude paintings of his Indonesian wife, Alexandrine.
A compilation of his artworks is being released to accompany the exhibit, under the book title Toon Kelder (1894-1973) Romantic Modernist written by the art historian Jaap Versteegh.
