Las Vegas, NV Periodontists, Drs. Allen Huang and Jeffrey Wang, Educate Patients on Dental Implants, In Honor of Gum Disease Awareness Month
Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) February 22, 2016 -- Dr. Allen Huang and Dr. Jeffrey Wang with Significance Dental Specialists, are honoring Gum Disease Awareness Month this February by raising awareness of the link between gum disease in Las Vegas, NV, and missing teeth. Patients who have been affected by the latter stages of the condition may have lost one or more teeth, and may require a tooth replacement option. The doctors recommend that all of their qualifying patients receive dental implants, which can provide patients with decades of use with minimal upkeep.
Gum disease is the most common cause of loose and missing teeth in the world, and as many as 85 percent of Americans may suffer from some stage of the disease. The condition begins mildly as gingivitis, which causes the gums to swell and bleed. If allowed to progress without treatment, patients will develop periodontitis. Once periodontitis occurs, deep pockets of infection form in the gums, which can then result in loose teeth that are at risk of falling out. Drs. Huang and Wang recommend dental implants to qualifying patients whose gum disease has progressed to tooth loss.
Dental implants serve both a functional and aesthetic purpose. As the body receives the message that there are no longer teeth to be supported in areas of the jaw, it begins to withdraw many of the minerals that make the area strong. This can cause the jaw bone to deteriorate and create a sunken look. To halt this process, implants are surgically placed in the bone and then bind to the jaw through osseointegration. When the body recognizes that there is an implant, the damage to the jaw may cease and normal function of the area may resume.
