Camarillo Chamber of Commerce Announces $10,000 Seed Fund to Each Winner of Startup Weekend Ventura County
Camarillo, California (PRWEB) February 25, 2016 -- Camarillo Chamber of Commerce (http://www.camarillochamber.org) and Dignity Health St. John's Hospitals (http://www.dignityhealth.org/stjohnsregional/), executive sponsors of Startup Weekend Ventura County, announce today that Startup Weekend Ventura County will award $10,000 in seed fund to the winner of IoT (Internet of Things) Healthcare and $10,000 in seed fund to the winner of IoT Agriculture at its March 11, 12 and 13, 2016 event. The winners will be selected by a panel of judges made up primarily of CEOs of local corporations. The award will carry no interest or repayment obligations. The winner must incorporate to receive the money.
“Ventura County is home to a number of top-rated hospitals in America. Dignity Health and Hospital Corporation of America both have significant presence here,” says Gary Cushing, CEO of Camarillo Chamber of Commerce. “Ventura County also has its roots in farming. Thanks to its temperate climate, crops are grown year round. There remains an acre of irrigated farmland in Ventura County to every acre of city. It makes sense for us to promote innovation in both healthcare and agriculture.”
“We believe a no-strings attached seed fund could help an emerging startup get going sooner,” adds Martin Shum, organizer of Startup Weekend Ventura County. “It takes money to raise venture capital. This funding is made possible by our generous sponsors.”
“Providing high quality, compassionate, affordable health care is what we do. And we do it well,” says Darren Lee, President & CEO of the two Dignity Health St. John’s Hospitals. “But we know there are other people, organizations, and corporations that do other things well - and better than we do. Together, we can do so much more than we can do on our own. We invite you to link your areas of expertise with ours and help us to improve the quality of life for others.”
Startup Weekend Ventura County (http://startupweekendvc.com), organized by Dignity Health’s SJPVH and SJRMC and the Camarillo Chamber of Commerce, will be held on March 11, 12 and 13, 2016 at Rancho Campana High School in Camarillo, California. This 54-hour event invites entrepreneurial agriculturalists, farmers, physicians, healthcare professionals, engineers, programmers and system developers to address healthcare and agricultural needs with innovative IoT solutions.
