PHYTEC launches the phyCORE®-i.MX7 System on Module (SOM) and phyBOARD®-i.MX7 Zeta Single Board Computer (SBC) based on NXP i.MX 7 Series Applications Processors

PHYTEC today announced the phyCORE-i.MX7 System on Module (SOM) and its phyBOARD-i.MX7 Zeta Single Board Computer (SBC) counterpart. Both products support next-generation NXP i.MX 7 single and dual-core applications processors adding a new level of security and power efficiency to PHYTEC’s line of embedded board solutions.

The i.MX 7 series applications processors from NXP operates at speeds of up to 1 GHz and is the first device on the market utilizing both the ARM® Cortex®-A7 and ARM Cortex-M4 cores. This heterogeneous multicore architecture enables a single-chip solution that can run sophisticated operating systems and provide real-time responsiveness and general-purpose programmable processing.

PHYTEC's off-the-shelf SOM solution and production-ready Board Support Packages (BSPs) ensure maximum reduction NRE and time-to-market for OEMs developing i.MX 7-based applications. The PHYTEC phyCORE-i.MX7 SOM is a full-featured, industrial-grade, and flexible drop-in solution ideal for a wide range of embedded applications such as IoT gateways; industrial human machine interface (HMI); factory automation; machine vision; building automation; networking; medical imaging as well as portable test and measurement. Within a compact form factor, the phyCORE-i.MX7 SOM supports a scalable set of on-board memory with additional peripheral and I/O features routed to high-density connectors on the underside of the SOM PCB.

The phyCORE-i.MX7 SOM will be available for evaluation as the phyBOARD-i.MX7 Zeta SBC. In this two-PCB system, the SOM itself serves as the CPU core of the SBC, which is formed by interfacing the SOM to a second carrier board PCB via high density connectors. The carrier board breaks out major interface signals to plug-and-play or pin-level connectors. The SBC provides an immediate platform on which customers can develop application code that can be seamlessly integrated along with the SOM into prototype, pre-production, and production systems. In addition, like the stand-alone SOM, the combination of SOM and carrier board yields a completely customizable SBC and can be designed for integration into end user applications.

Early access program sampling for the phyCORE-i.MX7 and phyBOARD-i.MX7 Zeta are available immediately, with general availability planned for Q2 2016.
