Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group’s Assisted Living Community in Quincy, MA, Celebrates Heart Month
Quincy MA (PRWEB) February 25, 2016 -- In celebration of American Heart Month in February, Allerton House at Hancock Park in Quincy, MA, a Welch Healthcare and Retirement Group assisted living residence, recently held a special Heart Healthy Day.
Heart disease is the leading cause of death among women in the United States. Additionally, new research suggests that although great strides have been made in the prevention and treatment of heart disease, it is still “under-diagnosed and under-treated” in women, according to the American Heart Association. It is estimated that more than 53,000 American women die each year from heart attack.
To encourage women and men to embrace a heart-healthy lifestyle, Allerton House at Hancock Park assisted living residence scheduled several events. A juicing demonstration and a “Cooking with Heart” program, featuring a grilled chicken salad, minestrone soup and strawberry mouse took center stage. In addition, Wayne Cushing, personal trainer, held a Tai chi class at the community. Tai chi is an ancient Chinese form of self-discipline and exercise that many people today see as a graceful form of expression with stress-reducing benefits. It is a favorite activity of the residents at the Quincy community.
"We were pleased to provide this heart-healthy series of activities designed to showcase the attention to the healthy lifestyle we promote at Allerton House at Hancock Park in Quincy,” says Kelly Richards, marketing director for the 42-unit rental assisted living community. Richards adds that the intimate community prides itself on providing beautiful and spacious apartments for adults 62 and older in a home-like environment, with personal care services when and if needed.
The heart-healthy programs were reserved for current residents and their families, and adult children and seniors who have been in the process of gathering information to help their loved ones determine when it is time to move into assisted living.
