G-CON POD® Facility Chosen as 2016 ISPE Facility of the Year Award (FOYA) Winner in Equipment Innovation
College Station, TX (PRWEB) February 25, 2016 -- G-CON Manufacturing, Inc., the leading manufacturer and supplier of prefabricated, autonomous cleanroom systems, called PODs ® , announced that the International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE), has awarded the 2016 Facility of the Year Award for Equipment Innovation to the PCMM consortium, a collaboration between Pfizer, G-CON and GEA. The judging panel selected the consortium as one of its six winners in the 2016 FOYA Program announcing the same on February 1, 2016. The award is a distinguished honor for G-CON, GEA and Pfizer as each year the ISPE's Facility of the Year Awards recognize the top pharmaceutical facility designs for displaying innovation and creativity in manufacturing processes and infrastructures serving the regulated healthcare industry.
The consortium developed the next generation of Oral Solid Dosage (“OSD”) manufacturing platforms to address the changing requirements of pharmaceutical manufacturing for flexible, agile and rapidly deployable processing platforms. The PCMM consortium achieved the goal by designing and building a portable, autonomous manufacturing environment for continuous oral solid dosage production using GEA’s ConsiGma™25 system and G-CON's modular POD® system. The equipment fits in a cluster of G-CON’s portable cleanroom PODs® and can be shipped to any location to get medicines to patients when and where they are needed. The PCMM facility is a platform technology that can be utilized in product development and commercial manufacture - using the same equipment throughout the entire product lifecycle shortening development timelines and reducing technology transfer. G-CON designed and fabricated the POD® system at its manufacturing facility in College Station, Texas. G-CON fully assembled and functionally tested the PODs® prior to shipment to Pfizer’s Groton site.
“Receiving this award is a source of tremendous pride to our young firm and shows the dedication of each of the team members and our employees to the success of this bold project. It also validates our cleanroom design principles for rapidly deployable, flexible and repurposable manufacturing infrastructures. We are extremely grateful to our partners, Pfizer and GEA, who collaboratively worked with us to complete this transformative project. We also would like to thank Pfizer for their tremendous vision and drive to initiate and complete this project which we believe will alter the way that drugs are manufactured in the future,” said Maik Jornitz, President of G-CON Manufacturing Inc.
