New Hair Transplant Procedure Greatly Reduces the Time Required For Grafts to Remain Out Of the Body

Dr. Parsa Mohebi is pleased to announce a groundbreaking new treatment for hair transplantation known as the serial extraction and placement technique. This technique, developed by Beverly Hills hair transplant surgeon Parsa Mohebi, allows a surgical team to work in sequences and to also implant Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) grafts as soon as possible after they are removed from the donor area.

According to Dr. Mohebi, “We know hair grafts can stay out of the body for several hours as long as they are in optimum condition as well as placed in special solutions. Studies have shown that the viability of hair follicles diminishes the longer they are out of the body. The serial extraction placement method not only minimizes the total out-of-body time of the grafts but it also improves their overall survival rate. Even though this technique adds to the length of time that it takes to perform the procedure, it does increase the growth and viability of the follicular grafts that have been transplanted.”

The serial extraction and placement technique breaks the hair transplant procedure into smaller sections. Rather than extract all of the grafts and then implant them in the designated area on the patient, the transplant procedure is performed in smaller extraction and placement sessions. This method allows a surgeon to focus on detaching the grafts while surgical assistants pull the grafts out and then place them in a special solution. The teamwork of this technique allows for a shorter overall time that the extracted grafts are out of the body before being implanted into the skin of the hair transplant patient.

Dr. Mohebi also noted that “traditional FUE procedures require a patient to remain in one position for several hours. In the serial extraction and placement technique, the patient will change positions often because the teams that are harvesting and placing the grafts are working alternatively to remove and place the grafts.
