Audiology Doctoral Students Recipients of AuDConnex Scholarships

Two audiology doctoral students have been awarded scholarships from AuDConnex USA. This is the second year the collaborative audiology network/buying group offered the scholarship opportunity to doctoral students across the nation. Each recipient was awarded a $500 scholarship and a two-year membership to the Academy of Doctors of Audiology (ADA). “Giving back is a big part of our philosophy at AuDConnex. We’re so happy to be able to award these scholarships for a second year and hope we can continue this program well into the future. This scholarship allows us to help future audiologists, and share our message of independence and collaboration in the world of hearing healthcare,” says Dr. Michael Iliff, founding member of AuDConnex.

To be eligible for the scholarship package, entrants had to be a third or fourth year audiology student, and were required to submit a 100-words or less essay explaining why independent hearing practices are important to the hearing healthcare community. “We had a great response from students this year. The essays were not only impactful, but also refreshing. It’s good to know the independent and organic model is still important to our up and coming doctors of audiology,” Iliff adds.

The winners of the AuDConnex scholarships are Missouri State University student Candace Coleman and University at Buffalo student Jacqueline Drexler.

“This scholarship will allow me to take advantage of the resources provided by ADA. By accessing these resources, I can remain updated on audiology practices and advocacy initiatives. It is important, as a professional and as an advocate for this field, to keep up with evidence-based practices and the current issues that can affect audiology,” says Drexler.

“By awarding me this scholarship, AuDConnex has lightened my financial burden enabling me to focus more on learning. I’m thankful for the generous financial support towards the pursuit of my degree. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as AuDConnex has helped me,” Coleman says.
