International Jury Awards MED-TAB Prestigious 2016 iF Design Prize; World’s First Portable, DICOM-Enabled Radiological Work-Station Enters Market
London, United Kingdom (PRWEB) February 26, 2016 -- IMAGE Information Systems has been awarded a prestigious iF Design Award 2016 for MED-TAB™, the world’s first portable, DICOM calibrated radiological work-station. The iF Design Award has been recognized throughout the world for more than 60 years as the symbol defining outstanding achievements in design.
In January 2016, a 58 member jury composed of international experts convened to determine the recipients of the iF DESIGN AWARD 2016 across categories including product design, packaging, concept and communication for key industries. MED-TAB was chosen as a winner in the medicine/healthcare industry category, among more than 5,000 entries from 53 countries.
Developed over a period of more than three years, MED-TAB is the world’s first portable radiological work-station. It incorporates a high-resolution LCD display and computer for medical image analysis. Used in conjunction with native or web-based advanced visualization software, MED-TAB enables imaging professionals for the first time to view, analyze and send radiological images anytime and from virtually anywhere – making the device one of the most innovative products to emerge in the world of healthcare IT for many years.
Dr. Arpad Bischof, radiologist and co-developer of MED-TAB, explains that it was conceived to provide opportunities for imaging professionals to work new, more comfortable and convenient ways as well as get closer to patients to provide better and faster work.
“Now doctors can see the patient’s images in sufficient quality and enjoy increased mobility. Image professionals now have the freedom to work beyond the reading room. They now have instant access to images in DICOM, leading to more efficient use of time and improved quality of care and safety standards for patients,” says Bischof. “This provides key benefits to imaging professionals in well-developed areas as well as hospitals and clinics in areas where radiological resources are currently limited.”
MED-TAB is a global product created by IMAGE Information Systems, an industry leader in Picture Archiving & Communications Systems (PACS). The device can be used for remote analysis, teleradiology radiology consultations and for peer review, as well as for image analysis in emergency rooms and intensive care units – while eliminating problems with image viewing quality, image calibration or compatibility.
“We launched MED-TAB to help doctors and imaging specialists give the best patient care possible. We are delighted to see how our aims for the product have been valued and received international recognition,” says Bischof. “The iF Design Award is an acknowledgement of the importance of this new technology that is touching the healthcare community around the globe in so many positive ways. MED-TAB truly is one of a kind. It will reshape medical service for patients while improving professional proficiency in the radiological field.”
The iF Design Award night celebrates award winners on Feb. 26, 2016, in Munich. Jury impressions and profiles of organizations and products receiving an iF Design Award are featured on http://www.ifworlddesignguide.com, part of the world’s largest online exhibit of international design awards. Beginning in late February 2016, the iF Design award winners will be part of a phased exhibition in Hamburg lasting through October 2016.
About the iF Awards: After more than 60 years of service at the point where design meets industry, iF organizes one of the most prestigious design competitions in the world today: every year, companies subject their products and services to the rigorous testing of the iF DESIGN AWARD and appreciate its high value – not least as an established marketing instrument for the awarded participants and their designs. iF supports its award winners with a unique services package, e.g. international exhibitions, the iF design app and the iF WORLD DESIGN GUIDE.

About MED-TAB: Developed by IMAGE Information Systems, MED-TAB is the world’s first portable DICOM-calibrated radiological work-station, and debuted at the Radiology Society of North America Annual Meeting in 2015. MED-TAB is expected to change teleradiology because for the first time, imaging specialists will no longer be tied to the reading room for image analysis, measurement and reporting.
