Midwest Service Provider Doubles Michigan Data Center; Adds 20,000 Square Feet
Grand Rapids, Michigan (PRWEB) March 01, 2016 -- US Signal, a Michigan based network, data center and cloud provider, announced today that it will break ground on a 20,000-square-foot expansion of its industry leading data center in Grand Rapids, Mich. This expansion emphasizes the rapid growth of US Signal’s Michigan customer base and doubles the location’s size due to customer demand. US Signal currently owns three data centers in Michigan, eight regionally and is the largest privately held and funded service provider in the Midwest.
“Our customers have always driven our product and footprint expansions, not just for cloud and data centers, but also for fiber-based network services,” said Kirk Dombek, vice president of business development at US Signal. “Enterprises are moving their servers into more resilient, managed data centers or into the cloud, which is driving demand for network connectivity between their sites and our data centers. We control, manage and own the data center facilities, the network connecting our diverse locations and the cloud infrastructure that hosts customer IT environments."
The 20,000 square-foot expansion will augment the physical space for customer growth and increase capacity for US Signal cloud and network services. With the vast majority of major data centers being located on the East or West coasts, enterprises located within the Midwest enjoy lower latency to their collocated equipment and cloud services by connecting to data centers within Michigan.
In the past five years US Signal has invested in efforts that include deploying cloud infrastructure in Grand Rapids and Detroit, data center expansions in Indianapolis, Madison WI., Chicago IL. and Grand Rapids. Additional growth included network expansion in Holland, Hudsonville, Zeeland, Traverse City and Metro Detroit and other Midwest locations.
“We have been an integral part of Michigan’s and the Midwest’s infrastructure transformation by providing leading edge technology in data center, cloud services and customer connecting network products,” said Richard L. Postma, US Signal’s Chairman and CEO. "It is no longer possible to simply offer one service to the exclusion of a truly integrated customer solution that emphasizes the ability to transport, house and protect data on a proprietary system. We have committed ourselves to meeting the technology needs of our customers in Michigan and the Midwest for over thirty years.”
With over 300 employees and eight Midwest data centers offering over 100,000 sq. ft. of combined space, US Signal continues to look for opportunities to increase its footprint within the Midwest in order to meet customer demand. Future expansion plans for Michigan include adding an additional purpose-built data center in the Detroit market, network density in Northern Michigan and increasing its professional and managed services offerings. Other planned expansion in the Midwest will continue based on US Signal’s systematic roll out of customer based products and services.
