Tools, Knowledge Gained at ASQ World Conference Can Make Immediate Impact in Attendees’ Organizations

“Freakonomics” co-author, renowned loyalty expert among keynote speakers at annual ASQ World Conference on Quality and Improvement, which offers attendees from a variety of sectors the tools needed to positively impact their business.

"Freakonomics" co-author Stephen Dubner is one of five keynote speakers at ASQ's World Conference on Quality and Improvement.

Best known as the co-author of “Freakonomics,” and “SuperFreakonomics,” Stephen Dubner is one of five keynote speakers — four of whom are best-selling authors — who will present at ASQ’s 2016 World Conference on Quality and Improvement.

The conference — held May 16–18 at the Wisconsin Center in Milwaukee, Wis. — will provide attendees opportunities for career development, benchmarking, and will offer expert advice and tools that can make an immediate impact in their organizations.

Celebrating 70 years in 2016, ASQ is the leading global authority on quality in all fields, organizations and industries.

The theme, “Quality Expanded: In the profession, through the organization, and around the world,” will focus on building and sustaining a culture of quality, quality fundamentals, the quality profession today and tomorrow, leadership risk and change, and customer experience.

In addition to Dubner, other keynote speakers include renowned loyalty expert and author James Kane; best-selling author, speaker and executive advisor Liz Wiseman; psychology scholar and best-selling author Brian Little, Ph.D.; and tech entrepreneur, CEO, author and venture capitalist Josh Linkner.

Stephen Dubner, Award-Winning Author, Journalist, and Radio and TV Personality — Monday, May 16, Morning Keynote

Stephen J. Dubner is an award-winning author, journalist, and radio and TV personality. He is best known as co-author of the books “Freakonomics,” “SuperFreakonomics” and “Think like a Freak.” They have sold more than 7 million copies in more than 40 countries. Dubner is also the host of the Freakonomics Radio podcast, which gets 5 million downloads a month.

Dubner also maintains the popular Freakonomics blog, which has been called “the most readable economics blog in the universe.” He has appeared widely on television, including as a regular contributor to ABC News and as host of the Emmy-nominated NFL Network program “Football Freakonomics.”

Dubner is also the author of several other books, including “Turbulent Souls/Choosing My Religion” (1998), “Confessions of a Hero-Worshiper” (2003) and the children's book “The Boy with Two Belly Buttons” (2007).

Dubner earned his undergraduate degree from Appalachian State University and his master’s of fine arts degree in writing from Columbia University, where he also taught English. He became an editor and writer at New York Magazine and The New York Times before leaving to write books.

James Kane, Renowned Loyalty Expert and Author — Monday, May 16, Afternoon Keynote

James Kane is considered the leading researcher and authority on what makes someone truly loyal — to another person, to an organization or to a cause.

As a behavioral scientist and consultant who has helped some of the largest and most well-known organizations in the world build nearly unbreakable relationships with clients, customers, members, fans, volunteers, vendors, sponsors and employees, Kane reveals the science behind loyalty, and what anyone can do to receive its benefits.

The author of two upcoming books, “The Loyalty Switch” and “Virtually Loyal,” Kane has worked with every major industry while advising and training organizations around the world ranging from Global 1000 giants to small, regional companies. Kane has been profiled in The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, BBC and numerous other global and industry publications. He has taught at both Harvard and Penn State University and is a frequent guest on CNN, CNBC and FOX Business, which credits him as being “one of the best experts in the business."

Liz Wiseman, Best-selling Author, Speaker and Executive Advisor — Tuesday, May 17, Morning Keynote

Liz Wiseman is a researcher, executive advisor and speaker who teaches leaders around the world. She is the author of three best-selling books: “Rookie Smarts: Why Learning Beats Knowing in the New Game of Work,” “Multipliers: How the Best Leaders Make Everyone Smarter” and “The Multiplier Effect: Tapping the Genius Inside Our Schools.”

Wiseman is a former executive from Oracle Corporation. She writes regularly for Harvard Business Review and Fortune, and her work has appeared in the Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Entrepreneur, Inc. and Time magazines. She has been listed on the Thinkers50 ranking and named as one of the top 10 leadership thinkers in the world.

Brian Little, Psychology Scholar and Best-selling Author — Tuesday, May 17, Afternoon Keynote

Dr. Brian Little is an internationally acclaimed scholar in psychology who has achieved distinction for both his research and teaching. His best-selling book, “Me, Myself and Us: The Science of Personality and the Art of Well-Being,” has been translated into many languages and delights readers worldwide.

Little received his early education in British Columbia and his Ph.D. in psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. Currently dividing his time between Canada and the United Kingdom, Little teaches at the University of Cambridge in the Department of Psychology and Judge Business School, and is a fellow of the Well-Being Institute. He is also Distinguished Research Professor Emeritus at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. In 2015, he was a Senior Fellow at the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. Little has taught at Oxford, Harvard and McGill Universities. His course on personality in Harvard’s Department of Psychology was immensely popular, and the graduating classes of Harvard elected him as a “Favorite Professor” for three consecutive years.

Josh Linkner, Tech Entrepreneur, Hyper-Growth CEO, New York Times Best-Selling Author, Venture Capitalist — Wednesday, May 18, Morning Keynote

Josh Linkner personifies creativity, entrepreneurship and disruptive innovation. He has been the founder and CEO of four tech companies, which sold for a combined value of more than $200 million. Linkner is the author of two New York Times best sellers: “Disciplined Dreaming: A Proven System to Drive Breakthrough Creativity” and “The Road to Reinvention: How to Drive Disruption and Accelerate Transformation.” He is also the founding partner of Detroit Venture Partners, investing in and mentoring more than 100 startups.

Linkner has twice been named the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year and is a President Barack Obama Champion of Change award recipient. He is a regular columnist for Forbes, The Detroit Free Press and Inc. Magazine. His work on innovation has been featured in The Wall Street Journal, Harvard Business Review, CNN and The New York Times.

The World Conference on Quality and Improvement will feature more than 100 educational sessions covering topics critical to a variety of industries including manufacturing, health care, government, financial services and more.
