Octo Achieves CMMI Maturity Level 4 for Software Development and ISO Certifications
McLean, VA., (PRWEB) March 08, 2016 -- Octo Consulting Group (Octo), an industry-leading and award-winning provider of digital services for the federal government, today announced its appraisal at CMMI Institute’s Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI)® Maturity Level 4 under the Development (CMMI-DEV) constellation. Octo is one of only eleven Federal Government Contractors in the United States appraised at Level 4. The appraisal was performed by the Software Quality Center (SQC), a partner to Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), CMMI Institute (part of Carnegie Innovations). In addition to this CMMI L4 appraisal, Octo has ISO 9001, ISO 20000, and ISO 27000 certifications. Octo is one of only a handful of government contractors that is a Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) Gold Partner: an industry-accepted framework for developing software applications using Agile development principles.
CMMI® is a capability improvement approach that provides organizations with the essential elements of effective processes that ultimately improve performance. Octo’s CMMI Level 4 rating signifies the company quantitatively manages its projects, which improves work quality and efficiency and ensures projects align with the organization’s business objectives. By implementing highly mature CMMI Level 4 practices, Octo has institutionalized a culture of continuous improvement and performs high-quality work efficiently, meeting project objectives on budget and on schedule.
“There is a myth in the marketplace that Agile practices and process rigor cannot mix,” said Mehul Sanghani, Chief Executive Officer for Octo Consulting Group. “Octo is dispelling this myth by achieving CMMI Level 4 appraisal, while actively practicing Agile principles and practices in delivering quality results to our customers. Achieving this appraisal, in concert with our Agile SAFe certification and ISO certifications, is a testament to our commitment to quality in our customer delivery as well as internal corporate operations. This achievement is also an integral part of our approach to bringing innovative digital services to our customers. Critically, Octo’s Level 3 and Level 4 appraisals focused on Octo projects developed under Agile software development principles rather than waterfall, unlike many other companies that have been appraised under CMMI.”
Octo recently received ISO/IEC 20000 and ISO/IEC 27000 certifications. ISO/IEC 20000, the first international standard for IT service management, was originally developed to reflect best practice guidance contained within the Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) framework, although ISO 20000 equally supports other IT service management frameworks and approaches including Microsoft Operations Framework and components of ISACA's Control Objectives for Information and Related Technology (COBIT) framework. ISO/IEC 27000 is part of a growing family of ISO/IEC Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) standards and explains the purpose of an ISMS. Collectively, these two certifications improve communication and participation throughout the organization, establish a culture of continuous improvement, and improve the overall quality of the services Octo delivers to its Federal customers.
