Houston Companies Take Employee Wellness to the Next Level at the Fit Company Challenge
Houston, Texas (PRWEB) March 11, 2016 -- On February 20, 2016 hundreds of participants from 27 companies located in the Houston area took part in the Fit Company Challenge, a corporate wellness event hosted by the Fit Company Institute providing area companies an opportunity to show the importance of living a fit and healthy lifestyle. Participants worked in teams of 3 to 4 towards completing a variety of fitness stations tailored to challenge the team member’s current fitness level and earn points towards their company’s overall score.
For the 2nd year in a row, Houston Methodist took the top overall company spot and top spot in the large team division. Jennifer Borders, System Director of Wellness Services and Michael Masters, Manager of Employee Wellness lead Houston Methodist’s efforts as their 2nd year as the company’s co-captains. “Houston Methodist had an amazing time participating in the Fit Company Challenge again this year. We had 12 teams fighting for the #1 spot. Everyone had fun and woke up the next morning very sore!” Said Jennifer Borders, “Thanks, Fit Company, for helping contribute to our Houston Methodist culture of Wellness. We look forward to next year!”
David Weekley Homes took the top spot in the Medium Team division, and while excited for the win, their team captain Jackie Hanson, HR & Benefits Administrator, was just as excited to see how much fun their teams were having. “Participating in the Fit Company Challenge helped to promote our company’s wellness efforts because it inspired our Team Members to push themselves toward achieving their fitness goals, while reinforcing the message that being healthy can also be fun!” Jackie continued, “I felt that this event brought our team closer as we worked together toward a common goal, and it was encouraging to see everyone cheering each other on from start to finish!”
On event date, with the help of over 40 volunteers assisting the contenders, participants challenged their strength, conditioning, power, agility, and ended with a test of endurance in order to show their companies and colleagues that they practice what they preach. Participants used their involvement to bring out company team members, and family members to cheer them on and promote the importance of having fun and effective corporate wellness programs at their companies.
The challenge was held at Houston Sports Park in Houston, Texas, a short drive from downtown Houston.
