“As the global population is set to double in the next 30 years, the innovative efforts taking place within ‘Smart City’ initiatives are essential to realize the vision of more accountable and efficient, people-centric cities,” said Alexandre Winter, Placemeter CEO and founder. “We’re honored for our urban intelligence platform and custom sensor to be included alongside the incredible finalists for this year’s SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards.”
Placemeter quantifies movement in modern cities at scale for local businesses, civic groups, government agencies, urban planners, and more. The self-serve platform allows anyone to use Placemeter’s proprietary computer vision technology to collect data on pedestrian and vehicular movement, which can uncover hidden patterns and inform more efficient processes. Though the platform is hardware agnostic – allowing customers to connect existing IP camera feeds into the system or upload pre-recorded archive video – Placemeter also offers the Placemeter Sensor, which is purpose-built to process data locally and deliver it to users in real time through the Placemeter dashboard.
“Each year, we are blown away by the caliber of the Interactive Innovation Awards finalists. This year, we’ll get to share that excitement with SXSW Interactive attendees through the exhibitions and demos at the Finalist Showcase,” said Mason Stewart, SXSW Interactive Innovation Awards Coordinator. “Not only are we celebrating the best and brightest in innovation, inspiration and creativity, we’re putting the tangible achievements in front of a broad audience who we hope will leave inspired to embark on their own innovation journeys.”
