Vanguard Wins Inaugural Award for Advancing Women in Leadership
Framingham, MA (PRWEB) March 09, 2016 -- Vanguard, one of the world’s largest investment management companies, is being honored for its successful effort to introduce and advance women into leadership positions in its organization. The CIO Executive Council (CEC), a professional services company and business unit of International Data Group (IDG), announced today that Vanguard took top honors in its first Advancing Women in Leadership award, which is presented by staffing services company Randstad. The award showcases outstanding initiatives to recruit, develop and advance women in enterprise leadership, especially in areas of traditional under-representation, such as information technology.
Vanguard’s program includes components which have been in place for nearly a decade, such as its “Women's Initiative for Leadership Success,” a Technology Leadership Development Program, and several sub-programs that connect Vanguard leaders to professionals and youth in the business and philanthropic communities. Within Vanguard’s information technology function, women make up half of the senior leadership team, and one out of every four managers is a woman. Thirty percent of the division’s employees overall are female, as is the company’s senior leadership team.
“Efforts like Vanguard’s to attract women into the managerial pipeline and to empower development and application of their leadership skills are not just laudable endeavors—they are vital to the long-term future of the business,” says CEC president Pam Stenson. “Today more than half of students completing undergraduate and graduate programs are women.”
Recognizing the need to empower more women for leadership roles, the CEC offers a year-long subscription to a professional virtual community for aspiring female leaders. Additionally, it holds an annual leadership Career Lab for women in Boston. This year’s Career Lab takes place October 20, which is also the date on which nominations open for next year’s award.
Award judges evaluated nominations for program scope, results, sustainability and impact on the enterprise. They also took note of nominee efforts to engage women in the community, typically via partnerships with educational institutions and leadership development programs.
In addition to winner Vanguard, four organizations earned kudos as “Distinctive Finalists” for the award: Harley-Davidson, Molina Healthcare, NCR and Salesforce.com.
The judging panel consisted of Cora Carmody, former chief information officer (CIO) of Jacobs Engineering and founder of Technology Goddesses; Tsvi Gal, chief technology officer at Morgan Stanley; Vaneese Johnson, executive coach and personal brand strategist with The Boldness Coach; Greg Meyers, corporate VP & CIO, Motorola Solutions; and Janelle Monney, managing partner and executive coach with The Monney Group LLC.
Vanguard will receive its award during a gala at IDG’s AGENDA16 business transformation event, March 21-23, in Amelia Island Florida. Vanguard will share lessons learned with conference attendees. Representatives from some of the distinguished finalists will also provide insights via a panel at the event.
