UChicago-backed Startup Launches Nomwell App for Restaurant Recommendation Sharing
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) March 11, 2016 -- Nomwell helps diners find more restaurants to love. The free mobile app, which was designed to help restaurant-goers share favorite places with one another and keep track of recommendations, launches nationally this week on iPhone and Android.
Nomwell (as in “nom nom nom”) was created at the University of Chicago Booth School of Business by now-alumnus and ex-venture capitalist Ryan Mattison, who took the company through UChicago’s #1-nationally-ranked university startup accelerator. He and his restaurant-going friends loved sharing restaurant recommendations, but wished they had a better way to remember, use, and pass along those recommendations.
With the Nomwell app, users can keep track of the spots they want to try and have tried in an easy-to-use, mobile restaurant list. They can share personalized recommendations with others and instantly browse their friends’ favorite places. In addition, deciding where to go next is simple with the mapping and filtering features. Finally, users can curate their favorite places into “Best Of” lists, such as the founder’s popular “Brunch For the Win” Chicago list, which is followed by his friends in the Windy City.
”The idea behind Nomwell comes from two facts about us restaurant-lovers,” founder Ryan Mattison explains. “Firstly, most of us already keep a rudimentary list of restaurants in a notes app or spreadsheet. Doing this is already an ingrained desire and habit. Secondly, recommendations from friends are the most relied-upon source for deciding where to eat. Nomwell combines those two needs in one useful, fun solution. Foodies now have a better way to keep track of that old restaurant list (which they can auto-import), and being on a platform where their friends keep similar lists, they can more easily send and receive personally vouched-for favorites.”
Alongside the mobile app’s launch, Nomwell is also releasing a website called Chicago Tastemakers (at http://chicago.nomwell.co/) this week. Chicagoans can browse and download personal recommendations from the city’s top Michelin-starred chefs, food critics, and food bloggers. The site represents a real-life example of the innate value in personal recommendations from people that diners trusts, as well how useful it can be to easily keep track of recommendations with an app like Nomwell.
