Pediatric Physical Therapy & Yoga Officially opens Its Doors
Frederick, Maryland (PRWEB) March 14, 2016 -- Pediatric Physical Therapy & Yoga, LLC (PPTY) has officially opened its doors, treating infants, children and adolescents with neurological, genetic and orthopedic conditions. PPTY is a private practice opened by Dr. Monica Johnson, a licensed MD Board
certified physical therapist and licensed practitioner of yoga for the special child, and provides individualized one-on-one treatment sessions for children of all ages and abilities. PPTY provides quality care through clinical expertise and evidenced-based knowledge, as well as a nurturing, supportive and safe environment for each and every child to optimize their functional potential.
Johnson has worked with the pediatric population for the past 10 years and has helped start and develop two pediatric rehabilitation clinics within that time. She recently studied under the creato of Yoga for the Special Child Method, Sonia Sumar, and is now a licensed practitioner.
“What makes PPTY unique is that our clinic not only helps children reach their functional goals and independence through traditionally-based physical therapy sessions, but we also use yoga for the Special Child Method,” said Dr. Monica Johnson. “I’ve seen first-hand the benefits that yoga provides children at all ability levels, and knew that offering combined services and
techniques would better serve my patients and help them thrive.”
Yoga for the Special Child Method is a step-by-step, therapeutic hands-on approach developed and taught by Sonia Sumar, which integrates age and developmentally appropriate hatha yoga asanas (poses), eye exercises, specialized breathing exercises, sound therapy and relaxation techniques. The goal of each session is to establish a strong bond with the child at his or her own level, to gain the child's confidence, and to increase carryover of poses to help strengthen and gain flexibility at home while working to meet their functional goals. The children discover the joy of movement, and for many families, yoga becomes a life changing experience where children learn to incorporate yoga on and off their mats, and bring it into their everyday life. “ I was blown away by Matthew's PT and YOGA session at PPTY”, says Tina M., mother of 7 y.o, client. “Not only did Matthew love it but it even had an immediate effect on his digestion and improvement in walking before we even left the clinic.”
PPTY works with the whole child from the inside-out, most importantly forming a connection with them, and focusing on all that the child can do while helping them to reach their specific needs and functional goals. PPTY is located at 47 E. South Street, Suite 1-A, Frederick, MD. PPTY is a full service clinic working collaboratively with physicians, schools, and other medical practitioners.
Within the PPTY facility are Occupational Therapy Consultants, LLC and Melissa Ward Counseling Services.
