SAE International Increasing STEM Education Awareness on World Pi Day, March 14, With the SAE Foundation Pi(e) Challenge
(PRWEB) March 10, 2016 -- Who says math and science can’t be fun? And tasty? And maybe a little crazy?
SAE International and the SAE Foundation are helping to raise awareness for science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) education on World Pi Day - March 14 - by creating the SAE Foundation Pi(e) Challenge.
Pi, as any fourth grader can tell you, is a mathematical constant that represents the ratio of the circumference to the diameter of any circle.
Pie, as any dessert aficionado will tell, is the greatest dessert ever created.
When pie is merged with the circumference of a human face, hilarity ensues.
Thus, the SAE Foundation Pi(e) Challenge was created - math, science, pie, slapstick humor. What’s not to like?
Here’s how to join in the fun.
• Prepare for the challenge: This is the easy part. Grab a favorite pie- or even just a plate of whipped cream. Next, select the lucky person(s) who gets to smash the pie.
• Make a Gift: To participate, make a donation to the SAE Foundation, which each year touches the lives of thousands of students from Pre-K through college with such programs as A World in Motion® and the Collegiate Design Series™. To donate online, go to: http://www.saefoundation.org/PieChallenge.
• Record the slapstick. While the video is running, tell everyone why you’re participating in the SAE Pi(e) Challenge, and challenge three of your friends to do the same.
Here’s a sample of what you can say in your video:
“Hi, my name is ________ and today I’m celebrating World Pi Day, that’s Pi without the e, by participating in the SAE Foundation’s Pi(e) Challenge. The lack of a STEM-educated workforce in the U.S. is a critical issue - and it’s going to take all of us to solve it. Will you help me ensure that there’s an adequate pipeline of STEM talent to keep our industries competitive? I’m donating $__________ to the SAE Foundation to support their mission to inspire curiosity in STEM and I’m challenging {insert names} to do the same.”
• Post your video. Upload your video to Facebook or Twitter on March 14 and tag the friends you’ve challenged. Use the hashtag: #SAEPieChallenge.
