River Oaks Elementary School Latest Recipient of Imagination Playground’s Vote for Play Award
Gulfport, MS (PRWEB) March 21, 2016 -- River Oaks Elementary School, Gulfport, MS is the newest recipient of an Imagination Playground and Play Associate Training (valued at over $7500) through Imagination Playground’s Vote for Play program. The Harrison County District K-6 public school garnered over 1500 votes from their community, through social media, electronic, and word-of-mouth campaigning.
River Oaks Elementary serves approximately 664 students, of which 92% receive free/reduced lunch and over 80 are English Language Learners. The school recently opened, and until now has been operating without any playground equipment.
Upon learning the news that their school had won the Imagination Playground, Dr. Shelly Simmons, Principal, said, “We would like to express our sincerest gratitude to everyone who voted for our school to receive the Imagination Playground. We believe in developing the 'whole child' and this was the missing piece of the puzzle. We have researched non-traditional and creative ways for our students to play that would stimulate their minds while encouraging physical activity through collaboration and problem-solving. The Imagination Playground is just what we needed to motivate critical thinkers.”
She went on to say, “Thanks to the support of our school district through email, Facebook and REMIND, we were able to make imaginative play a reality for our students. Thank you, Imagination Playground!”
Dave Krishock, President & CEO, Imagination Playground, offered his congratulations to the school and said, “River Oaks Elementary School and its community put forth an exemplary effort, rallying together to fulfill the needs of their students. We can’t wait to see the excitement when the children start playing with their new Imagination Playground.”
He added, “We also know there are millions more children out there who could benefit from creative, free-play and it is our goal to reach them. Our Vote for Play program will continue to address those children, one school and family center at a time. We are just so delighted to help.”
Imagination Playground’s Vote for Play allows communities to vote for their favorite school or organization to bring an Imagination Playground Big Blue Blocks set to the children they serve.
In 2015, Imagination Playground awarded six playgrounds through the Vote for Play program, which runs approximately 6-8 weeks. Imagination Playground’s next Vote for Play session begins on March 21, 2016.
