Holland & Hart Makes Move Toward Comprehensive Cybersecurity Offering for Clients
Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) March 11, 2016 -- Holland & Hart today announced Matt Sorensen will be joining the firm as a valuable addition to its cybersecurity offering for clients. He recently served as IT Compliance Officer for the Office of the Presiding Bishop of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City where he helped oversee an information security program spanning 58 countries and more than 60 business lines. Sorensen joins a strategic team serving the increasingly complex needs of business and organizations seeking to secure their data and proactively thwart and respond to data breaches.
“Cybersecurity involves high-stakes issues for so many clients, including risking the company brand, risking enforcement measures in the event of data breaches, and battling sophisticated hackers. Any kind of cyberattack may also attract potential class action lawsuits and the increased scrutiny of customers and the supply chain. Many law firms are not equipped to handle both the legal aspects of cybersecurity and the specialized understanding of IT and company infrastructure. Matt’s experience in information risk management roles advising businesses in the financial, technology, and legal industries is part of our differentiated offering to clients. We want to provide our clients with comprehensive solutions, not partial fixes,” said Romaine Marshall, partner in the firm’s Privacy and Information Security and Litigation practices in Salt Lake City.
“What we are seeing is a convergence of issues,” said Tracy Gray (CIPP/US), partner on the cybersecurity team in the firm’s Privacy and Information Security and Intellectual Property practices in Boulder. “For all types of businesses, including retailers, financial institutions, healthcare providers, technology companies, and governmental entities, a wide range of issues are rapidly evolving – from breach prevention and preparedness to post-breach response. We are aligning our expertise to address all of these issues for our clients. Matt’s addition underscores that effort.”
Sorensen is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified Information Privacy Professional in both the United States and Europe (CIPP/US and CIPP/E). His practice will focus on domestic and international data privacy and cybersecurity law, advising companies across industries on breach prevention, cyber-attack preparedness, information governance, regulatory compliance, and data breach management. In addition, he is a Healthcare Information Security and Privacy Practitioner (HCISPP), Certified HIPAA Professional (CHP), Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), Certified Web Application Penetration Tester (GWAPT) and Certified E-Discovery Specialist (CEDS).
“Matt’s experience on the client side of privacy and cybersecurity helps him understand how to create and implement compliance programs and controls that are effective for companies. I know my clients value that industry perspective, as I came from an in-house setting as well. We are striving to offer clients a distinctive level of knowledge and experience,” said Richard Spilde (CIPP/US), partner on the cybersecurity team and a member of the firm’s Intellectual Property practice.
Holland & Hart’s Privacy and Information Security practice features 16 lawyers across a multitude of disciplines, from litigation to intellectual property, and from cybersecurity to counter espionage. Over the next six months, the firm will offer a number of educational events to help clients better prepare for the growing epidemic of cybersecurity issues.
