Leading this country away from the norm where abstinence is considered to be the only option.
St. Louis, Missouri (PRWEB) March 10, 2016
Moderation Management Network, Inc. (MM), the largest alcohol reduction support group in the world, has appointed Larry Wahlers, one of its own successful members, to the position of Executive Director.
“According to the U.S. government, alcohol use disorder affects nearly 14% of adults,” says Dr. Marc Kern, Chairman of the Board. “Yet 90% do not seek treatment because reducing drinking is not considered an acceptable recovery goal by most addiction treatment facilities.”
MM is an evidence-based program and a nonprofit support group. It helps its members cut back on their drinking by encouraging them to explore their relationship with alcohol. Success in this group is a stepping-stone to abstinence or maintenance of non-problematic drinking.
Larry Wahlers, who has over thirty years of nonprofit experience working with the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, believes people should be able to get support before they hit bottom. “Let’s help steer this country away from the norm where abstinence is considered to be the only option.”
Mr. Wahlers believes his longstanding relationship with the MM community uniquely positions him to have a significant impact on delivering positive outcomes within the organization.
MM helps people who are concerned about their drinking and want to make positive lifestyle changes. It empowers its members by promoting early self-recognition of risky drinking behavior and helping them cut back before their drinking problems become severe. This free, self-help group is run by its members, who joined to resolve their alcohol use issues and stayed to help others.
Originated in the US, MM is a central driving force in the worldwide paradigm shift toward moderate drinking. Just last month, a major beer company unveiled a new marketing campaign entitled, “Moderate Drinkers Wanted.”
