XYIENCE, the original great-tasting, zero-calorie energy beverage, announces its retail expansion into over 1,000 new grocery and other large format store locations across the country since its brand re-launch in September 2015. The energy drink has confirmed new distribution in a variety of major retailers including Walmart, Safeway, Albertson’s, Randall’s, Tom Thumb, H-E-B, Shaw’s, United Supermarkets, Kmart, among many others.
While convenience stores remain the largest channel for the energy drinks category, sales growth in grocery and mass merchandise channels is outpacing the growth in convenience. In 2015, energy drink sales in the grocery and mass channels grew 11% and 15% respectively, compared to 8% growth in the convenience channel (Nielsen, latest 52 weeks ending 1/2/2016).
One driver of growth is Older Millennials (ages 27-37), as they turn to zero-calorie energy drinks as a better-for-you alternative to coffee and other caffeinated beverages. According to BevNET, older millennials including those with or are planning for children, are consuming more energy drinks than ever before, as 64% claimed to drink energy products regularly.
