InDemand Interpreting Partners with Critical Measures to Host Webinar: “New National Trends Affecting Health Equity”
Seattle, WA (PRWEB) March 15, 2016 -- I nDemand Interpreting, a leading provider of comprehensive language services solutions for Healthcare, including Video Remote Interpreting (VRI), announces a webinar, “New National Trends Affecting Health Equity.” This webinar is being offered in partnership with Critical Measures, a national management consulting and training organization specializing in cross-cultural healthcare and the law of language access.
This webinar will highlight four national developments that will encourage more equitable care for language access to minorities. The webinar will also suggest best practices that hospitals and providers can take to proactively improve their language access policies and practices while improving the quality and safety of care and reducing the risk of legal liability.
The featured speaker for this webinar is David B. Hunt, CEO of Critical Measures, who is also a former civil rights attorney and a national expert on the law of language access in healthcare. Hunt will provide insights and analysis regarding four national developments that could have significant consequences for providers’ language access programs.
The webinar will cover the new draft anti-discrimination regulations by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) under the Affordable Care Act as well as the American Hospital Association’s new #123forEquity Program, which aims to reduce racial and ethnic disparities in healthcare. The discussion will also include a review of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) Equity Plan for Medicare beneficiaries and a new report by America’s Essential Hospitals, formerly the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems, that encourages public hospitals to collect patient race, ethnicity and language (REL) data and use qualified medical interpreters when providing care to language access minorities.
Critical Measures regularly conducts legal language access audits for leading hospital systems and health plans that compare clients’ language access systems, policies and practices against federal and state language access laws and national best practices. InDemand Interpreting connects health care professionals to medically trained and qualified interpreters 24 hours a day, seven days a week, in more than 200 languages, including American Sign Language (ASL).
“Today, roughly 21 percent of the U.S. population does not speak English at home,” said David Hunt. “It’s estimated that between 12 and 23 million Americans are limited English proficient (LEP), which means that they speak English less than very well. Our goal is to assist providers in meeting this challenge by assuring that language access minorities receive high quality, safe care that complies with federal and state civil rights safeguards that have been put in place for their protection. We also work with providers to assure that new technological solutions that can expand access to qualified medical interpreters —such as VRI—meet the needs of both patients and providers.”
As a result of the webinar, providers will be able to improve their understanding of and compliance with existing and emerging language access laws, increase their on-site and remote use of qualified medical interpreters and engage in a variety of national best practices to improve their language access programs.
“We are pleased to partner with Critical Measures to conduct a webinar that will benefit healthcare organizations nationwide,” said Cecil Kost, Chairman and CEO of InDemand Interpreting. “Video remote interpreting offers an accessible, cost effective and reliable language services solution for use in all healthcare settings.”
