Rockler Celebrating National Woodworking Month With 'Make-and-Take' Projects - Aim is to Introduce New People to Woodworking and DIY
Medina, MN (PRWEB) March 23, 2016 -- April is National Woodworking Month, and Rockler is celebrating with a series of hands-on project kits and classes that help participants learn basic woodworking skills while they make useful objects for their homes. Projects include an ice cream scoop with a turned handle, a wood-handled knife, a floating wall shelf and a decorative keepsake box.
“National Woodworking Month is a good opportunity for us to share our love for woodworking with people who haven't tried it before,” said Scott Ekman, Rockler vice president of marketing. “We are also encouraging our woodworking customers to help by inviting someone in their community to try woodworking, whether that's a family member, a friend or even a neighborhood youth group. We believe anyone can learn woodworking and enjoy the pride of building something with their own hands.”
All Rockler stores are offering the “make-and-take” classes; instructions, overview videos and materials also will be available online. The cost for each class is $25 plus the cost of the material participants select for their projects. Class size will be limited from three to six participants, so lots of one-on-one help will be available.
Each “make-and-take” class will last 2 to 3 hours and will focus on a single project, which participants will take home with them. In the ice cream scoop class, they’ll turn and finish a custom wood handle on the lathe and mount it to stainless steel scoop hardware. In the knife-making class, they’ll mount and shape a custom wood handle/grip on a knife kit. In the floating wall shelf class, they’ll build a shelf and get the hardware needed to install it in their own home. In the decorative box class, they’ll learn basic woodworking skills while they make their own keepsake box.
