North Shore Eye Care Expanding Coverage in Garden City With Opening Of New Office and Merger with Long Island Eye Surgeon, Dr. Van Valkenburg
Smithtown, New York (PRWEB) May 05, 2016 -- Long Island’s fastest growing comprehensive eye care provider, North Shore Eye Care, today announced the merger of noted Long Island eye surgeon, Kathleen Van Valkenburg, MD as part of their ongoing effort to increase ophthalmic coverage in their new Garden City practice, according to Jeffrey Martin, MD, medical director and managing partner of North Shore Eye Care.

Dr. Van Valkenburg received a Masters of Science degree from New York University and completed additional pre-medical studies at Columbia University. During medical school at New York University, she did research at Manhattan Eye & Ear Hospital in diseases of the retina and macula. Her research and publication in Fluorescein Angiography became the impetus to pursue a career in Ophthalmology. She completed her residency at North Shore University and prior to joining North Shore Eye Care was in private practice in Manhasset and Garden City for over twenty years.
Joining Dr. Van Valkeburg in the new Garden City office will be cosmetic eye surgeon Samuel Baharestani, MD and William S. Kasper, M.D., F.A.C.S., who specializes in age-related diseases of the eye. Dr. Baharestani is a Fellowship-trained, board-certified ophthalmic plastic surgeon, is a Fellow of the American Society for Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Kasper is the Emeritus Acting Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology of Winthrop-University Hospital, Mineola, N.Y. and has been listed in the prestigious Castle and Connolly publication, "How to Find the Best Doctors: New York Metro Area," for the last 16 years, an honor bestowed by patients and colleagues. As past Presidents of the Long Island Ophthalmological Society, and the Ophthalmology Section of the Nassau Academy of Medicine, he has contributed both to the scientific and educational information of its members.
