Corepoint Health Becomes a ConCert by HIMSS™ Champion
Dallas, Texas (PRWEB) March 22, 2016 -- Demonstrating leadership in the field of health information technology (IT), Corepoint Health is a ConCert by HIMSS Champion, joining other organizations that are committed to advancing interoperability and enabling secure, reliable transfer of data within and across organizational and state boundaries.
ConCert by HIMSS offers a unique, independent seal of approval for electronic health records (EHR), health information exchange (HIE) and health information service provider (HISP) systems. ICSA Labs, an independent division of Verizon, offers third-party testing and certification of security and health IT products, and serves as the testing and certification body for this effort.
Corepoint Health completed the HISP portion of the ConCert by HIMSS testing.
The certification program addresses a key obstacle faced by today’s healthcare systems: many IT systems cannot share data, creating the need for costly and custom interfaces to be built each time systems are interconnected. Thus, for the greatest impact on the quality of healthcare delivery, IT systems in physician practices, hospitals, clinics, labs and radiology centers must seamlessly and easily exchange data. This interchange requires a consistent and standard way of communicating.
By simplifying the certification process, this voluntary testing and certification program offers increased clarity in the marketplace and increased demand for interoperability, explained Joyce Sensmeier, MS, RN-BC, CPHIMS, FHIMSS, FAAN, vice president, informatics, HIMSS North America. Providers will now be able to identify certified interoperable products by their certification mark. And, she said, vendors certified through this program will have a clear, competitive advantage in the marketplace.
By promoting product certification, organizations want to assure that healthcare providers buy health IT products that are interoperable with other software products, so data can be securely accessed and shared across multiple states and systems. At the core of this certification program are “interoperability standards” that have been recognized by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (“ONC”). HIMSS and ICSA Labs will continue to provide feedback from implementations to the national health IT standards-setting initiatives established by ONC.
“Corepoint Health is proud to be among the first seven vendors to become ConCert by HIMSS certified,” said Jon Mertz, vice president of marketing at Corepoint Health. “Because the program is supported by both HIMSS and ICSA Labs, we fully expect ConCert to quickly become the seal of approval that healthcare providers look for when selecting technology vendors entrusted with vital patient data.”
