Neff Rental Sponsors 2016 Jose A. Perez ALS Golf Classic for 20th Year
Miami, FL (PRWEB) March 24, 2016 -- About 280 golfers from Neff Rental and more than 90 leading equipment manufacturers, as well as construction, engineering, legal, financial services and other companies from throughout the nation will tee off on the Trump National Doral Red Tiger and Golden Palm courses at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 16. Sponsorships range from $550 for individual golfers to $25,000 for the title status.
The golf event is the namesake of Neff Rental’s co-founder, Jose A. Perez, who lost his battle with ALS in 2001. Over the past 20 years, the event has raised more than $3.4 million for the ALS Recovery Fund, which supports research at the University of Miami’s Department of Neurology, where Michael Benatar, MD, PhD, is the Chief of the Neuromuscular Division and the first incumbent of the Walter Bradley Chair in ALS Research.
“Our support for the Jose A. Perez ALS Golf Classic is reflective of the Neff Rental culture,” said Steve Michaels, Neff‘s Vice-President of Fleet Operations. “Neff Rental and its employees support the golf classic as an expression of respect for the strength and courage that Jose displayed during the final years of his life, and to help support research to find a cure for ALS.”
Mr. Perez co-founded Neff Rental and served as its first president. In 1991, Mr. Perez was diagnosed with ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig ’s disease, a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. More than 30,000 people die each year from the disease. There is currently no cure.
In 1996, Mr. Perez, with his sons Jose G. Perez and Alberto J. Perez, founded the UM ALS Research Foundation and, with Neff Rental, started the ALS Golf Classic to fund the foundation. Mr. Perez passed away in 2001, and the family established the ALS Recovery Fund in 2005, which assists with research costs, patient care and community awareness.
“Without the support of Neff Rental, its vendors and customers, the ALS Golf Classic would not be possible,” said Alejandra C. Perez, the event organizer. “Our family appreciates the company’s support and commitment of its employees to make the ALS Golf Classic a success.”
Neff Rental employees also volunteer to help organize and work during the golf tournament and a pre-tournament fund-raising party, to help make both a success.
“In addition to the employees, I am very grateful for the generous support from all of our equipment manufacturers and suppliers, who year after year have helped to make this event so successful. For twenty years they have continued to pledge their support, through the good times as well as the bad”, said Michaels, adding, “The company is proud to be an integral part of this event and we will continue to support it for years to come.”
