EAM-Mosca is pleased to introduce the Mosca MOM-8 semi-automatic table-top strapping machine. The MOM-8 is a derivative of Mosca’s very successful Fusion automatic bander, minus the full track used for automatic strap feeding. The new MOM-8 is similar in operating concept but far different in construction and performance than competitive products.
Semi-automatic banders, sometimes referred to as table-top units, operate by feeding a length of strap on their table, with an operator responsible for wrapping the strap around the package and inserting it back into the sealer, for it to be tensioned and sealed. Semi-automatics are typically used in applications where volume doesn’t justify the cost of an automatic strapper or where package size variability makes fixed arch banders impractical.
The sealing head of the MOM-8, the heart of any strapping machine, is a simplified version of the market proven Mosca Standard 3 sealer which has been used in high volume automatic applications for many years. It uses DC brushless direct drives rather than noisy, high wear mechanical transmission systems. The heater blade is the same rugged temperature controlled device used in Mosca’s automatic strappers. The strap feed channel disassembles without tools, for fast convenient servicing. Control is provided by the proprietary Mosca MSCB1 control board, the same one used on Mosca’s higher end machines. Tension is controlled electronically for excellent consistency and is infinitely adjustable from near zero to a hefty 45 kg (99 Lbs.) depending on strap size. It operates reliably with Polypropylene (PP) straps 5mm, 8mm and 12mm wide.
According to Jose Diaz, President, EAM-Mosca Mexico, “This new table-top unit is not the lowest priced system on the market. The tendency for suppliers of these products has been to slim them down to reduce costs. The unintended consequence has been to reduce performance and operating life. We’re countering this trend with the MOM-8, opting instead for what we’re known for – reliability. We’re bringing this tabletop unit back into our product line-up because a lot of our customers are tired of the low-cost throw-away models.”
The cabinet features a rugged full box construction that stands up to portable use. Table tops are fully supported and hinged for easy sealer access. Table height is conveniently adjustable from 32” to 35.5”. Convenient controls enable operators to adjust strap feed length and tension by turning a knob. Additional strap for larger packages can be obtained by touching a button on the panel, or by simply pulling it off the dispenser by hand.
The intended use of the MOM-8 is in applications where production volume points to a semi-automatic solution but where superior reliability and longevity are key decision points. Priced at about half the cost of an automatic Mosca strapper, MOM-8 is a solid value for users who may not use the unit constantly, but want a solution that they can rely on when they need it.
