The goal of this campaign is to provide readers with the resources and education to then give their children equal opportunities so that more of America’s children are prepared to succeed in the 21st century.
Simply put, the early years really matter. Early childhood is a crucial stage in a child’s life, in which the foundation is laid for their future. Education begins from the moment a child is brought home from the hospital and continues on through toddler play dates, preschool, and the start of kindergarten.
Featured on the campaign’s panel of experts is Baby TALK’s Founding Executive Director, Claudia Quigg. She states that “newest research tells us that social-emotional development in the early years of life is the bedrock for building healthy adults. The relationships parents and children create affect everything from school readiness to optimal physical health. Early childhood is a ‘wet cement’ time for human beings, and Baby TALK is committed to supporting children and families during those wonder years.”
Baby TALK supports the parent-child relationships, recognizing how they shape children’s development and growth. Quigg also notes, “Baby TALK supports parents in their interactions with their young children, noticing when little ones make a bid for attention and responding in ways that promote the child’s healthy development. Baby TALK views infants and toddlers as real people, actively seeking to understand their worlds and manage themselves. Baby TALK programs affirm the strengths of children and also families and advocate for them to the larger society.”
Baby TALK programming includes Newborn Encounters at hospital obstetric units followed by a host of services designed to meet families’ unique needs. These services may include intensive home visiting, parent-child socializations, and alternative education for parents and children together.
