Pacific Mobile Structures Wins 2016 Modular Building Institute Award of Distinction
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) March 26, 2016 -- Pacific Mobile Structures, Inc. wins 2016 Honorable Mention Award for the Wanupum Heritage Center in the Permanent Modular Institutional/Assembly category at The 33rd Annual World of Modular Convention.
PMSI CEO Garth Haakenson says, “This project is a great example of our team’s ability to work together with architects and the owners to incorporate the modular building process with traditional construction to design a cost-effective and attractive building and serve the needs of the Wanapum.”
More than 60 years in the making, the Wanapum and the Grant County Public Utilities District, in Washington, worked to bring a culture to life and generations together. For that to happen, a traditionally built heritage center kept its profile down, to follow the flow of the mountainous landscape along the Columbia River. From there, Pacific Mobile Structures installed 18 modules, seamlessly joining that traditionally built center, to house the museum’s offices, conference room, archival library, restrooms and full-kitchen for the employees and the culture’s history. A specialized room for audio recording allows archiving of the few remaining speakers of the native language. The sound-proofing and preparation for this room, will help restore the heritage for future generations, which was the purpose of the entire building.
Entries are judged, based on architectural excellence, technical innovation and sustainability and cost effectiveness. “This year’s Awards of Distinction contest was very competitive, with over one hundred entries overall,” said Tom Hardiman Executive Director of the Modular Building Institute. “Our panel of independent judges had some tough choices to make, so I congratulate Pacific Mobile on winning this award.”
