We are happy to be able to offer this service to Southwest Florida residents and visitors as a way to help bring skin cancer awareness and detection to the forefront in people’s minds.

SkinSmart Dermatology announced it will offer complimentary skin cancer screenings every Wednesday through May 25, 2016 in observance of Melanoma Awareness Month. Approximately 3.5 million skin cancers are detected in the U.S. every year, and melanoma is the most deadly form of the disease killing over 10,000 Americans every year.

“We are happy to be able to offer this service to Southwest Florida residents and visitors as a way to help bring skin cancer awareness and detection to the forefront in people’s minds,” said Dr. Elizabeth F. Callahan, founder and medical director of SkinSmart Dermatology in Sarasota. “Skin cancer is on the rise and hopefully we will encourage those who might not think about getting their skin checked to come in for a basic screening between now and May 25."

SkinSmart Dermatology currently has four dermatologic practitioners on site, making appointment scheduling easy and quick. In addition to Dr. Callahan, SkinSmart practitioners include Mohs surgeon Dr. William B. Adams, Kate Weed, Certified Physician Assistant and Molly Prichard, an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner. In total, SkinSmart Dermatology encompasses 10,000 square feet and employs a staff of nearly 40.

Complimentary skin cancer screenings will be held every Wednesday through May 25, on a first-come, first-served basis and as long as appointment slots are available. Call 941.308.7546 to schedule a screening with one of SkinSmart’s practitioners. Basic screenings are performed in the office at 5911 N. Honore Ave, Suite 210, Sarasota FL 34243. The facility is located at the corner of N. Honore and University Parkway, one traffic light West of the Mall at University Town Center. During basic screenings, patients remain fully clothed, and can point out any area of concern during the screening.

SkinSmart Dermatology is the only single dermatological practice with two full-time fellowship-trained Mohs skin cancer surgeons on staff from Tampa to Naples. The practice includes a Mohs Skin Cancer wing and its own pathology laboratory.
