Travis Manion Foundation Trio Take On Operation Samalama: 1500 Mile Run to Continue Late Volunteer’s Efforts to Honor Veterans
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) March 29, 2016 -- The route will take them through Austin, TX; El Paso, TX; Tucson, AZ; and Yuma, AZ, before they complete Sam’s journey at the U.S.S. Midway Museum in San Diego Harbor. They will be accompanied by their support crew of Joe Wooten (USMC) and Gray Bashew to cover 1500 miles.
Sam’s journey began in the fall of 2014 when he set out to walk across the country in support of our nation’s Veterans. He began from his Florida home with the goal of walking all the way to California. In April of 2015, Sam was forced to stop his efforts due to his being diagnosed with Stage 4 stomach cancer. He had covered 1000 miles on foot and hoped to return to finish the effort he had started. Sadly, Sam passed away this past August at the age of 73 but not before he and his family were able to reach out to the Travis Manion Foundation about the possibility of completing what Sam had started. The continuation of Sam’s journey is named for his nickname Samalama, used fondly among his friends and family.
While Albie, Nick and Matt are running 1,500 miles during the month of April the Travis Manion Foundation is challenging the nation to 15 “If Not Me, Then Who…” moments, which can range from a random act of kindness to doing service within your community. We believe everyone has the opportunity to make a positive impact when they adopt the “If Not Me, Then Who…” mindset and join the movement. Take the challenge, join the movement and show your 15 moments on social media using #WhatsYour15 in your posts. Donations can also be made the Travis Manion Foundation of which all funds will go to support the foundation’s programs assisting our nation’s Veterans and Families of the Fallen.
