New Report Reveals How 931 Design and Development Agencies Collaborate with Clients

Assembla and Usersnap released new survey results. Respondents overwhelmingly use agile methodologies, are comfortable with enterprise clients, use distributed teams, express frustration about scope creep and unclear communication, and point the way to future improvements.

Development companies are locking in clients by moving to more interactive, responsive, and precise discussions of weekly deliverables.

Nearly 1,000 agencies, development & design companies responded to a survey by Usersnap and Assembla. The findings released today are filled with insights about how agencies and developers actually serve clients. The survey uncovered how client collaboration and communication has changed over the years, and how it still needs to change.

Key findings include:

  • Scope creep and client communication are the biggest pains for agencies and developers: Scope creep is listed at the top of the frustration list (56.6%), followed by unclear client communication (52.3%) and project delays (45.3%).
  • Waterfall is being replace by Agile and Scrum: Agile (66.4%) and scrum (41.9%) are leading the development methodologies, while Waterfall is only ranked 4th on the list of used frameworks.
  • Web development is a global operation: Clients partner with development & design companies based on criteria which are more important than location.
