WKA Intercontinental Champion Amer Abdallah

Our sights are set on May 14 and God willing, I will be world champion.

Undefeated WKA Intercontinental Champion and No. 2 world ranked Amer Abdallah will take on British Champion Daniel Hughes of Swindon, England for the vacant Cruiserweight World Title on May 14 in Lockport, NY.

Lace Up Promotions, who had received the nod from the World Kickboxing Association to host the event, has decided to hold it in Abdallah’s hometown of Lockport, NY at the historic Kenan Arena.

“We’ve been building this fight since Amer first turned professional,” Team Abdallah Manager Ahmed Imamovic said. “It only makes sense to have it at home in front of the fans that have supported him his entire career.”

The fight, dubbed “The World Awaits”, will be the first world title fight in Western New York history featuring a local native. In Nov. 2015, Abdallah was granted a fight against champion Gareth Richards, who failed to board his flight, citing Visa issues.

“It was a tough pill to swallow. Months of hard work, a lifetime of dreams all slipped away from me within minutes,” Abdallah said. “But we are beyond that. Our sights are set on May 14 and God willing, I will be world champion.”

Sponsoring the event is Seneca Poker, Mulvey Construction, All Metal Works, Sparks Monroe Heating, Bling!, Executive Landscaping, Papa Leos, and Cain/Witlin/Dry Accounting.

“Without these sponsors, this show couldn’t happe,n” Abdallah said. “I’m grateful to each and every one of them for continuously supporting me.”

Hughes, who owns Scorpion Kickboxing in England, is the ISKA No. 2 ranked Cruiserweight, having had a successful professional career consisting big victories over some of Europe’s top competition and boasting a 23-3 record.

In Abdallah’s last outing, he defeated ISKA World Champion and WKA European champion James Wallis by unanimous decision. Team Hughes has brought Wallis into their camp as a trainer to help prepare him for the world title fight against Abdallah.

“Does it faze me? Of course not. I beat James and I’ll beat Dan. Find a guy that beat me, and have him show you how to do it.” Abdallah said.

The fight has WNY fans excited as the show is expected to sell out. Tickets will be available online at ticketfly.com or in person at the Lockport Athletic & Fitness Club.
