According to organizers, there are a number of events taking place inside Tropicana Field on the day of the Autism Speaks Walk. They include face painting, a drum circle, inflatables, and other fun-filled activities. The walk itself will take place outside the stadium. Entry is at Gate 1. Check-in and registration starts at 9 a.m. The one-mile walk begins at 10:30 a.m. and will take place “rain or shine.”
AchieveAbility is a therapist-owned rehabilitation clinic based in Lutz, at 288 Crystal Grove Blvd. Its service area includes Wesley Chapel, Land O’ Lakes, Carrollwood, Zephyrhills, Tampa, and Odessa.
“We are committed to providing the highest quality services with a personal touch,” said Kimberly Hull, MS, CCC/SLP, BCBA. “Our experienced therapists help people achieve solutions to everyday challenges, through interventions that truly matter to each individual.”
The Autism Speaks Walk is a grassroots fund-raising effort that not only generates funds but also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research.
According to its website, Autism Speaks is the world’s leading autism science and advocacy organization. It funds research into the causes, prevention, treatments and a cure for autism—as well as increasing awareness of autism spectrum disorders. Suzanne and Bob Wright, grandparents of a child with autism, founded the organization in 2005.
Hull said she and her team are looking forward to the April 23 get-together as a way to support the Wright family’s ongoing efforts.
“This is our first Autism Speaks Walk,” she said. “We are very excited to be participating in this event.”
Hull was born in Pennsylvania and attended Clarion University for her undergrad and graduate degree in Speech/Language Pathology and, later, Pennsylvania State University for her Certification in Applied Behavior Analysis. She moved to the Tampa Bay area in 2012.
“My passion is helping people achieve their greatest potential, whether that be a client, student, co-worker or friend,” she said. “I enjoy mentoring new therapists and celebrating their successes.”
AchieveAbility Therapy Services, which incorporated in September 2013, started as a home-based therapy enterprise; the Lutz clinic opened in June of last year.
“We offer speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy and applied behavior analysis to individuals of all ages,” Hull said. The entire staff has a true and pure passion for helping and serving others.”
Staff members agree:
"I love working at AchieveAbility,” said Lindsey Meyer, Behavior Assistant. “Through her passion and love for helping others, Kim has created a family atmosphere where, not only do I get to do what I love, but she helps and inspires me daily to reach my own personal goals."
Behavior Assistant Tiffany Pagan had this to say: “Here I have the chance to do what I am passionate about, helping children and their families.”
April Hodge, Behavior Assistant, added, “The greatest success that is celebrated in the clinic is the success of the kids, and I'm so thankful to be working for the right reasons and making a difference."
