Would-Be U.S. Citizens Get Pro Bono Application Assistance from James Scott Farrin Attorneys
Durham, NC (PRWEB) April 04, 2016 -- The Law Offices of James Scott Farrin will, for the third consecutive year, co-sponsor and help provide free application assistance at local citizenship workshops in the Triangle area April 9th and May 21st.
The law firm co-sponsors these workshops in conjunction with the National Association of Latino Elected Officials, El Centro Hispano, Univision 40, and the North Carolina Advocates for Justice (NCAJ).
Many bilingual James Scott Farrin employees, including lawyers and paralegals, will be on hand to help applicants fill out applications for U.S. citizenship and help answer questions – free of charge.
Anabel Rosa, an attorney with the firm who is very active in the Hispanic/Latino community said, “We help citizenship-seekers fill out citizenship applications for free, saving them from $500 to $1,500 in attorney costs. We are not immigration lawyers. But many of us have immigrated to America, ourselves, and we appreciate the opportunity to help others become U.S. citizens.”
Founder and president of the law firm, James S. Farrin, holds this effort in high regard:
“There are thousands of folks living in the Triangle eligible to become citizens, but without the means and knowledge to do so. My own mother immigrated to America from Denmark as a young girl. Like those before and after her, she dreamt of becoming an American. As soon as she could, she passed the citizenship requirements and fulfilled her dream of becoming a U.S. citizen. I can think of nothing more patriotic than helping cultivate new citizens, and I am proud of the work we do toward this.”
Over the past three years, the firm has co-sponsored four citizenship workshops, helping to fill out and file more than 150 applications.
“This is such an exciting time for immigrants to become citizens and participate in our democracy. So many diverse perspectives among voters helps make America strong,” added Farrin attorney, Gabe Talton, who is the chairman of the continuing legal education efforts associated with the April workshop.
