It is simple, effective, and it works!

Franklin County has ten golf courses with a variety of terrains and levels, so there is plenty of opportunity to use the Laser Cap, invented by Dan Baker, manager of the Waynesboro Municipal Golf Course and a certified PGA professional. The Laser Cap is a training aid to help golfers keep their heads still and their eyes focused on the ball. Powered by a lithium battery, the Laser Golf Cap is turned on with the push of a button, and the laser light gives immediate feedback on when a golfer’s head moves. The hat easily puts to rest any question to whether or not a golfer moved his/her head. It is undeniable because the beam of light shows the movement.
Even skilled golfers can improve with the use of the Laser Golf Cap. “It is simple, effective, and it works. It is good for teachers and students,” Baker said.
The prototype for the Laser Cap was an ordinary golf cap with a laser pointer duct taped to the brim. To keep the laser pointer on, Baker duct taped a penny to the “on button.” Baker said he noticed when instructing golfers that in a golfer’s peripheral vision, the golfer was watching what was moving—the putter blade. So, to stop golfers from mishitting the put, he invented the prototype of the Laser Cap.
“If that red beam moves, you moved your head. The biggest fault in golf--be it amateur or professional—is excessive head movement,” said Baker.
From there, the Laser Cap took off. Baker introduced it at the 2016 PGA Merchandise Show in Orlando. As he waits for the patent, he said he is excited about the possibilities.
“I have it in the hands of Champion Tour professional Michael Allen, and the cap will be introduced on the Golf Channel sometime in April. It is exciting to see where it goes.”
