Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) March 31, 2016 -- The IT industry gained 8,300 jobs for the month of February, according to the latest employment numbers released from the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics released on Friday, March 4, 2016.
According to the Economic Situation Report, the IT industry’s job growth is down by 34.1 percent over January’s gain of 12,600 jobs. IT job data is collected from multiple sectors, including the data processing, hosting and related services subsector, the computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector, the computer systems design and related services subsector, and the management and technical consulting services subsector.
Data processing, hosting and related services rose by 900 jobs last month after a loss of 500 jobs in January 2015. The subsector now sits at 299,300 jobs, a 2.5 percent increase over the 291,900 jobs gained in February 2015. This industry data includes computer programmers, computer support specialists, computer systems analysts, application developers, and systems software developers.
The computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector, which includes computer hardware engineers, computer software engineers (applications and systems software), electrical and electronic engineering technicians and equipment assemblers, and semiconductor processors lost 400 jobs last month. Over the last 12 months, the subsector has lost 9,000 jobs.
Computer systems design and related services, a part of the professional and business services sector gained 4,400 jobs in February. Over the last 12 months, the subsector has increased by 4.9 percent or 91,100 jobs. Management and technical consulting services grew by 3,400 jobs, a 0.26 percent increase over the month prior, and a 4.1 percent increase over February 2015.
Across all industries, total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 242,200 in February, while the unemployment rate was unchanged at 4.9 percent. Employment gains occurred in health care and social assistance, retail trade, food services and drinking places, and private educational services.
Total nonfarm payroll employment for December and January was revised from 262,000 to 271,000 jobs, and 151,000 to 172,000 jobs, respectively. With these revisions, employment gains in December and January combined were 30,000 more than previously reported.
