Breg is expanding operations in Mexicali with a $2 million investment in 2016.

“With this investment, the Board of Directors expressed their strong confidence in Breg Mexico as a center of excellence in lean manufacturing,” said Casey Parker, Direct Maquiladora Operations.

Reaffirming its decision to locate much of its manufacturing in Mexicali in 2002, Breg, a medical device manufacturer, is completing a major expansion of its manufacturing presence in 2016. Investing an additional $2 million, Breg is nearly doubling its footprint and employee count at the Palaco Industrial Park.

“With this investment, the Board of Directors expressed their strong confidence in Breg Mexico as a center of excellence in lean manufacturing,” said Casey Parker, Direct Maquiladora Operations. “I tell my team that we earned the right to receive this investment and expand our operation in Mexicali.”

Late in 2014, Breg and United Orthopedic Group announced the merger of the two companies. As part of the corporate consolidation, Breg Mexicali was internally awarded the opportunity to take over the manufacturing of the Bledsoe Brace System. This led to the Board of Directors investing $2 million in relocating manufacturing equipment and constructing another 60,000 square foot facility.

Breg has enjoyed many positive years manufacturing its products in Mexicali. Headquartered in Carlsbad, CA, Mexicali is within easy driving distance, which is one of the many reasons Breg initially selected the area for its international manufacturing operations. The location also allows Breg to easily reach its primary markets throughout North America. The expansion was made in 2002 in part due to the location, but also because of the skilled and stable workforce. Breg has, over the years, developed ties with the two major universities in Mexicali – CETYS and UABC.

“Mexicali is excited to have Breg expand its work in the city, hiring more residents, and investing more in the region,” said Mayor Jaime Diaz. “Breg has been an excellent corporate citizen. We are happy to look forward to many more years in our city together.”

As part of their community work, Casey Parker has served on the board for the Mexicali EDC for some time, presenting at workshops, touring potential investors, and providing overall support to the organization. “The Mexicali EDC congratulates Breg, Mr. Parker, and the employees on their expansion. Breg has been a great supporter of our organization,” said Alfredo Garcia, President of Mexicali EDC. “We look forward to many more years working together.”
