WinDocks Releases First Docker Engine for Windows

The release provides Windows developers, SQL Server DBAs, and operations personnel the opportunity to begin Docker-based development on Windows Server 2012, with .NET, SQL Server, and Windows application containers.
WinDocks 1.0 is the culmination of years of development, four months of Beta testing, and collaboration with technology leaders NetApp, Cisco, and others. The WinDocks – NetApp collaboration has focused on use of Public cloud for application development and test, while ensuring security and control of enterprise data. A containerized application can be provisioned in the cloud, using a private ~1 TB database, in just 45 seconds. WinDocks containers are lightweight and a team is supported with identical container environments on a single VM.

The Windows community is asking for Docker support on Windows Server 2012 with SQL Server containers. Industry surveys show that Windows Server 2012 will continue to grow share-of-usage for the next 3-4 years, and most organizations don’t view Windows Server 2016 as a practical near-term solution.
