Caregiverlist® Announces Updated Tennessee Nursing Home Rating and Cost Index April 2016

Tennessee seniors seeking long-term nursing home care in their state will pay about $63,000 per year, the average annual cost based on the daily rates of 354 nursing homes in Tennessee. Medicare does not pay for long-term care however, Medicaid does pay for an ongoing stay in a nursing home for qualifying seniors.

The April 2016 Caregiverlist® Nursing Home Index announces the average annual cost for an Tennessee nursing home is $63,225. Caregiverlist reports the updated costs and ratings for nursing homes so that seniors and their families plan for their long-term care needs.

Seniors in Tennessee looking to plan ahead for senior care options should first understand the daily costs of nursing homes in their area and review the most important factors indicating quality of care. After the first 100 days of nursing home care, the senior and their family must pay for the long-term nursing home care themselves.

Tennessee seniors and their families can see the most recent ratings and costs of nursing homes in their area by using the interactive Caregiverlist® Nursing Home Directory. Of the 354 total Tennessee nursing homes, more than half (169) receive a Caregiverlist® Nursing Home Rating of 3 out of 5 stars. Six Tennessee nursing homes receive 5 stars, while about 10% of the nursing homes earned 1 star. New nursing homes also receive only a 1 star until they have had a chance to be rated. The average star rating for nursing homes in Tennessee is 2.6 out of 5 stars.

Tennessee nursing home costs are among the bottom ten in the nation. This month’s update of the Tennessee's Caregiverlist® Index indicates that the average cost of a nursing home in Tennessee is $173.22 (the state average of single and shared rooms,) or about $5,268.75 per month.

Senior care costs can factor heavily in long term care choices because many older Americans live on a fixed income. Low-income seniors in Tennessee may qualify for Medicaid, with the financial qualification of no more than $2,000 in assets for individuals and a $3,000 limit for couples. Medicaid will pay for long-term care in a nursing home for as long as the senior qualifies for needing care, even if this means multiple years of care until death.
