Los Angeles UNCF Mayor's Masked Ball Raises $500,000 for Scholarships
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) April 05, 2016 -- A total of $500,000 was raised for scholarships at the recent Los Angeles UNCF Mayor’s Masked Ball. More than 500 business, civic and education leaders attended the March 11 event. Mayor Eric Garcetti hosted the event, and Dr. Michael Lomax, UNCF president and CEO, was in attendance. Chris Schauble, anchor at KTLA TV, was the master of ceremonies.
The UNCF Masked Award was presented to Carl Ballton, retired president and CEO of MUFG Union Bank Foundation, and Dr. Helen Easterling Williams, dean and professor at Pepperdine Graduate School of Education and Psychology.
“College affordability is one of the defining issues of our time, and we must put higher education within reach for everyone who wants to pursue it,” said Mayor Eric Garcetti. “Historically black colleges and universities have helped countless people chase their dreams. I was honored to host the Mayor’s Masked Ball—and thrilled to support UNCF and its donors in their mission to help students get to and through college.”
This year’s marquis sponsors were Delta Air Lines, Southern California Edison, Toyota and Xerox. Mayor’s royal court sponsors were AEG, Union Bank of California and UPS. Mayor’s masked court sponsors were Disney, Los Angeles Inter-Alumni Council of UNCF, Kia Motors, Pepperdine University, Faye McClure, Ron Berryman, Pamela Wiley, and the Matthew and Roberta Jenkins Family Foundation. Their support, along with that of attendees, will help provide California students with the resources they need to get to and through college.
The evening featured a live auction, a VIP reception, UNCF recipients’ testimonials, dinner, and dancing.
Entertainment was provided by award-winning recording artist Chanté Moore.
